A No-Adhesive option for applying your full  lace wig.

Are you new to lace wigs and afraid of messing up your brand new investment?

Are your pregnant and wanting an option that allows you to wear your lace wig free of adhesives?

Do you have a low forehead or extended temples that are close to your eyebrows?

I was blessed with a “Meant to wear lace wigs IN FRONT of my hairline” FIVEhead at an early age LOL. I actually apply my lace wigs in front of my hairline like Tyra to achieve a more natural looking FOREhead :)

If this is not your situation, you DO NOT have to shave back your hairline. I actually do not recommend that you shave your hairline if you are planning on wearing your natural hair again. For those of you with alopecia, thinning hair, etc – if you are committed to forever wear lace wigs, then shaving your hairline is an option. However, if you are unsure – shaving your hairline can yield an awkward appearance once your decide to wear your natural hair.

SEW IN METHOD:

If you prefer to not use adhesive near your hairline, and you do not wish to shave your hair line back (not recommended for reason stated above) the sew in method may be an option.  Apply a small (less than 1/4″ wide)inverted cornrow (braid on the inside, not sitting on top) around the perimeter of your hairline. The remaining hair in the middle can be sewn vertically, horizontally, or in a beehive – just be sure that the braids lay flat for a flat appearance once the wig is applied. Just in front of this small cornrow leave approximately 1/8″ of your own hair out.  This hair allows you to use your own hairline – widow’s peak, extended temples, etc – and achieve a natural look with edge of the lace wig hidden. Sew the lace wig onto the cornrow using a regular long sewing needle (not as damaging as a weaving needle, since it will not leave large holes in the lace = shedding) and 100% polyester clear thread. The “ears” of the lace wig may need to be pulled taut and adjoined to the side nape area to achieve a flat look in the front.

NO SEW OPTIONS:

For a easy do-it-yourself no sew option – use adjustable straps (an option under CAP STYLE when ordering a custom wig) or sew in small wig clips (add yourself to a stock wig) at the nape. This provides a snug fit at the nape so that the front hairline lays flat. Once again, the “ears” of the lace wig may need to be pulled taut and adjoined to the side nape area to achieve a flat look in the front.

The term “Lifting”  refers to the lace wig separating from your skin and causing frustration!  Here are a few tips to help reduce and eventually eliminate this situation:

  1. Make sure that you skin is free of oil prior to applying your lace wig. Oil on your skin will lead to your lace wig lifting and reducing the length of time that your wig remains attached. Use 91% alcohol to remove any oil from the perimeter of your hairline. (99% alcohol works as well but may be harsh to your skin. 99% alcohol is better suited to remove adhesive from your lace as opposed to your skin.)
  2. Allow the alcohol to dry completely before applying a dermal barrier like Skin Shield or Scalp Protector. Allow the dermal barrier to dry completely.
  3. Style your hair in a manner that allows it to lay as flat as possible underneath your wig – a wig cap may help you achieve this. A nude wig cap also helps seal in moisture to your natural hair and gives the illusion of “scalp” from any direction that your wig is parted.
  4. Make sure that when your hair is measured for your lace wig, that your natural hair is styled in the same manner that it will be when the wig is applied.
  5. Make sure that your wig does not rest too far down on your neck at the nape. Hold your head back and look directly up at the ceiling. If your lace wig extends past the crease at the nape of your neck when you hold your head in this manner – your wig will constantly lift at the nape. Adjust by applying Frayblock and cutting the excess lace and hair of the wig away. Cut from the back INSTEAD of at the front hairline. The front hairline of of wigs ordered from ShopLaceWigs.com feature natural hairlines with bleached, single knots. Cutting into this front portion may lead to an unnatural looking front hairline.
  6. When applying your lace wig at the nape, be sure to hold your chin down toward your chest. This will prevent the nape area from lifting up once you have completed your wig application.
  7. Lastly, make sure that the sideburns on the wig do not extend too far down on your face. This is especially important if you wear sunglasses or glasses. If the sideburns on the wig are too long, they will lift when your wig is pulled back into a pony tail or worn with a headband. Adjust by applying Frayblock and cutting the excess lace and hair of the wig away.

Before Measuring (Download your free fitting and measuring chart

» Be sure to style your hair in the same way as you will wear it under the lace wig.» If you plan to wear your hair in cornrows underneath the wig, you must take your measurements with your hair braided in cornrows.

» Make sure your hair is as flat as possible. You will need a non-elastic cloth or plastic measuring tape to take your measurements in inches.

» Do not pull the tape too tight, but it should be a snug fit. We recommend measuring at least 3 times to assure accuracy, as your wig will be constructed based only on the measurements you provide.

» We also recommend that you add approximately 1/4 inch more than your actual measurement. Measuring beyond your hairline ensures that when glued, your wig will adhere to your skin and not directly on your hairline.

How To Measure Your Head for a Lace Wig

How To Measure Your Head for a Lace Wig

*The measuring unit used is inches.* Measuring your head correctly will be the key to a proper fit.*

How to Measure

1. Circumference of the Head:
This is the only measurement needed when ordering a stock wig. Measure around the hairline of the entire head. Position the tape measure so its edge follows the hairline around the head and nape of the neck. (Average measurement is 22″ to 22 1/2 inches).

2. Front to Nape:
Measure 1/4 inch beyond the front hairline and go over the top of the head to 1/4 inch past the hairline at the nape of the neck. This measurement provides a comfortable front to back fit. (Average measurement is 14 to 15.5 inches)

3. Ear to Ear – across forehead:Measure from the front of the ear at hairline at the base of sideburn, up across the hair line along forehead to same point in front of opposite ear. (Average measurement is 11 1/2 to 12 inches).

4. Ear to Ear – over the top of head: Measure from hairline directly above the ear across top of head to the hairline directly above the other ear. (Average measurement is 11 1/2 to 12 inches ).

5. Temple to Temple: From temple to temple across the back of head. (Average measurement is 14 to 15 inches).

6. Nape of Neck: Measure the width of hairline across the nape of the neck. (Average measurement is 5 to 6 inches).
